Woodmere Art Museum Trip

Over spring break I went to the Woodmere Art Museum in Philly for a special exhibition. It was called Forces of Nature and feature two separate shows, both of which consisted of artists inspired by nature. There was also an underlying abstract quality in all of the work.

The first show was called Elaine Kurtz: A Retrospective and showed work done by Kurtz throughout her life. She was known for being interested in color and perception, so a lot of her work dealt with vertical and horizontal lines that faded from one color to another. She also had a series in which she incorporated sand and gravel into the paint so that it would glimmer in the light.

The second show was called Elemental: Nature as Language in the Works of Philadelphia Artists and displayed various pieces from local artists.
